Both fixtures use an illustrative $0.18/kWh comparison rate. Differences use full precision before display rounding. A negative A − B value means Scenario A is lower under the entered scenario, not universally preferable.
Electrical input and task suitability
Use microwave electrical input wattage, not marketed cooking-output wattage. Microwaves and ovens heat differently and suit different foods, portions, containers, and batch sizes. An oven session may include preheating; microwave use may be shorter but that alone does not prove equal results.
Improve the comparison with representative full-use kWh measurements for one clearly described task. Record portion size, runtime, power setting, preheating, and whether the oven or microwave display remained in standby afterward.
Safety and limitations
USDA and FDA guidance support safe microwave operation and cooking context; they do not validate energy fixtures. Energy Saving Trust’s tested-meal examples illustrate why food and portion context matter, but its regional tariffs and results are not reused here.
