Both fixtures use an illustrative $0.18/kWh comparison rate. Differences use full precision before display rounding. A negative A − B value means Scenario A is lower under the published inputs, not universally better.
Capacity, batches, and preheating
An air fryer may need multiple batches for an oven-sized quantity, while an oven may heat a larger cavity and may preheat. Heating elements can cycle in both appliances. Comparing identical minutes alone can therefore miss batch count, preheat energy, and actual task completion.
Improve the comparison by measuring complete sessions for the same clearly described food quantity and doneness target, while recording whether preheat and multiple batches were included. Even then, the result applies to that test—not every meal.
Safety and limitations
Energy Saving Trust publishes tested-food comparisons and explicitly notes that capacity and batch cooking affect appliance choice. Its regional tariffs and tested meals are not used to validate these illustrative fixtures. EU oven-label rules support using per-cycle energy for standardized electric-oven tests; they do not establish equivalence between an oven task and an air-fryer task.
